Blimbing, Bali

A visit to 'Bali Asli' - Pure Bali. The Garden of Eden of Indonesia, replete with snakes. Blimbing is carefully tended rice gardens and a people whose heart sings of happiness and contentedness. It's a wonderful hike

Padang, Sumatra

A picture story of a matriarchal Muslim society, struggling with a changing world. Learn about two villages, one a mangrove fishing village that had never before seen westerners and the other a gold mining village in a deep, equatorial jungle. Also enjoy a quick visit to a perfect, deserted ocean beach and warm crater lake, that hums her swimmers to health.

Leshan, China

Home to the world's largest Buddha rock carving, Leshan offers so much more with her rock cliff tombs, ancient temples, fishing villages, and nature walks for every pleasure walker.

Chengdu, China

A visit to arguably the oldest city in the world. The metropolitan area boasts a population of nearly 10 million, that struggles with new-found freedoms, affluence, and ties to a past that keep her character strong, and certainly Chinese. Chengdu is also home to the world's spiciest cuisine and a few bizarre attractions as well.

Nyepi 1929, in Ubud, Bali

An annual Hindu rite, to personify and excise evils that inhabit this colorful island. Each village, or banjar, spends weeks creating these larger than life characters, to be paraded and then burned in ritual bonfires.

The following day, the entire island is cast in silence, even the airport is closed, so as not to re-attract these evil entities that were previously driven from hiding.

Qing Cheng, China

This mountain in Sichuan, is said to be the birthplace of the Taoist religion. Qing Cheng is home to a large array of tourist walking attractions, but some parts remain ancient and true to monastic culture.  Simple, back to nature ideals have resulted in magnificent tea gardens and communal monasteries for centenarians. Breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the Sichuan plane are inspiring as well.

Tegalalang, Bali

Timeless green beauty, cared-for by people who ask only for rice, coconuts and bananas. In return, these mysterious, but friendly gardeners sculpt delicate terraces, dedicated to a myriad of Hindu gods. Tegalalang is a nature lovers walk of walks.
